Timeless design. Honest materials. Enduring craftsmanship.
Along the edge of the ancient hilltop city Orvieto, Italy runs a quiet path beside weathered stone walls that once protected its inhabitants. Walking this route, past wandering cats, centuries-old stones, and sweeping views of the Umbrian countryside, you eventually arrive at the Church of San Giovenale.
Dating back nearly a thousand years, San Giovenale is one of Orvieto's oldest churches. Simple and unassuming, its doors remain open each day for prayer and Mass. Many visitors pass it by without a second glance, yet those who step inside quickly discover its quiet beauty and enduring presence.
The design of this crucifix draws inspiration from the church's Romanesque architecture. Its form reflects the simple proportions, sturdy construction, and timeless character found throughout the building. Like San Giovenale itself, it is not meant to impress through ornament, but through endurance. It is a reminder that some of the most meaningful things are often overlooked, quietly standing the test of time.
