Visitors to Our Lady of Sorrows in Kansas City often find themselves drawn to a remarkable sight above the high altar. There, angels lift a crown above Mary, Queen of Heaven, while Christ hangs upon the Cross below. For generations, this image has reminded worshippers that suffering and glory are forever joined that through the sorrow of Calvary comes the promise of resurrection.
The influence of that crown extends far beyond the church itself. It is believed to have inspired Hallmark's iconic crown logo, the naming of Crown Center, and the crown imagery that has become one of Kansas City's most recognizable symbols through the Royals.
The Crown of Sorrows Crucifix was created to honor this sacred image and the city it helped shape. Inspired by the crown held aloft above the sanctuary, it serves as a reminder that even in our seasons of sorrow, God is preparing something greater.
All wood is finished with a food and skin safe finish. 100% natural materials.
